The department team and job
As part of the Analysis department the Fundamental Analysis team develops models and analyses on power markets deals and assets following an Agile / Scrum process. We provide model-based forecasts of power prices and analysis of price drivers to support decision making in the traded market horizon and beyond. Our analysis is based on fundamental power forecasting models covering our core markets on the continent and in the Nordics. We believe that the decisions we help make enable fossil freedom that drives society forward.
The position is located in Hamburg as part of an international team of highly professional skilled analysts located in Hamburg and Stockholm.
What you will do:
MODELS: Development of our mid-term fundamental power price model.
- Improve our forecast by adapting our model to evolving electricity markets such as producing better and dynamic assumptions for inputs such as electricity demand stack solar and wind production etc..
- Develop new model features according to stakeholder requirements. Examples could be improving the PPA pricing methods or our weather modelling.
- Improve model architecture to make more efficient use of the cloud infrastructure Improve model architecture to make more efficient use of the cloud infrastructure and optimize code and data integration.
ANALYSIS: Use the model for simulation runs to answer valuation and ad-hoc questions.
- Provide market insights to support decision making for RES PPA pricing project valuations (especially wind and battery projects) flex calculations etc.
- Investigate ad hoc scenarios to estimate their market price impact and the consequential impact on for example the Vattenfall asset portfolio.
- Enable profitable trading strategies through providing fundamental analyses.
Qualifications :
We are looking for someone with:
- Ambition and the belief that collaboration in an Agile/Scrum environment yields high performing teams and willingness to work through and harness the potential conflict that can arise. Experience working in an Agile / Scrum environment is ideal.
- The belief that working in an environment enabled by our core values of being Active Open Positive and Safe helps us enable fossil freedom that will drive society forward.
- High computer literacy in particular programming skills in Python. An eagerness to constantly improve your own and our drive collective coding and infrastructural standards. Experience collaborating using git/DevOps is appreciated. Preferably with experience with cloud (Azure) computing and databases.
- A sound understanding of Central and Western European (especially Dutch and German) energy markets is advantageous and a strong willingness to learn more about it is imperative.
- An understanding of quantitative methods power modelling and/or mathematical optimization especially using Gurobi is beneficial. Experience doing fundamental analysis using an energy market simulation tool such as BID3 is ideal.
- High computer literacy in particular programming skills in Python. Experience collaborating using git/DevOps is appreciated. Preferably some experience with cloud (Azure) computing and databases.
- An academic degree in engineering mathematics or similar would be preferred. Ideally with courses in energy systems modelling.
- Fluency in English.
- Willingness to travel a few times per year for example to Sweden for a team event or for a training.
