This posting is not used for current Unit 1 staff transfer requests. A separate electronic form will be shared for tenured Unit 1 staff to request a location transfer. Please expect the form to be shared in Spring 2019.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
This position will work in the Kids Learning with Accommodations Structures and Supports (KLASS) Program in schools throughout the district. Reporting to the principal the teacher ensures that all their students achieve ambitious academic outcomes. The teacher must effectively:
  • Plan data-driven standards-aligned and differentiated units lessons and activities;
  • Deliver clear accurate and rigorous lessons with a range of instructional and formative assessment techniques;
  • Establish and maintain a supportive productive and positive learning environment with strong classroom management practices; and
  • Monitor and communicate about student progress while engaging in continuous reflection adjustment and professional development.
  • The teacher will perform additional related duties as required.

Specifically the Special Education Teacher for the KLASS Program will be expected to:
  • Learn about the TEACCH Method and other relevant approaches for working with students with autism and will be provided with training opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers and teaching assistants in the KLASS Program to continue and sustain a model program.
  • Collaborate with regular education and specials teachers to create appropriate inclusive learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with building staff to help create autism-friendly instruction/environments throughout the school building.
  • Communicate skillfully with parents.
  • Utilize visual sensory communication social and behavior supports.
  • Work with Unique Learning Systems and other district curricula and will be provide with training opportunities.
  • Learn more through professional development throughout the school year.
