REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Pupil PersonnelJOB GOAL: Guidance counselors help students choose appropriate courses understand graduation requirements and plan their academic path. They expose students to various career options and help them explore their interests and aptitudes. Guidance counselors guide students in setting realistic academic and career goals and developing plans to achieve them. They provide information about college admissions vocational programs and other post-secondary :Must meet all licensure and highly qualified requirements as set forth by the Massachusetts Department of EducationAlternate Credentials acceptable to the School CommitteePERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:- Coordinate and consult with the principal to develop and maintain schedules grade reports transcripts records and awards for students-Assist the principal in the development of the master schedule-Assist students in selecting their courses based on student interests and abilities-Provide individual and group counseling to students on academics; and college and career paths-Assist students in setting academic and career goals including college preparation and job readiness-Collaborate with teachers parents and administrators to create individualized support plans for students-Guide students through the college admissions process including application preparation and essay writing-Organize career fairs and college visits to give students exposure to various opportunities-Assist students in securing scholarships financial aid and preparing for standardized testing-Maintain updated records on students academic and career progress-Maintain confidentiality-Monitor students progress and collaborate with teachers to support academic success-Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and concerns-Provide orientation for new students-Serve as liaison between students parents faculty and outside agencies to foster communication and support-Serve as a member of the Student Support Team-Oversee and maintain Section 504 Plan and Process; assist students and families with gaining access to 504 process and procedural rights consult and collaborate with members of the 504 interdisciplinary team to identify appropriate and reasonable accommodations support students who receive accommodations and keep current and accurate records-Schedule and conduct AP testing-Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school counseling-Adhere to school and district policies and procedures-Participate in faculty plc and professional developmentEvaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with accepted district guidelines/procedures in alignment with state mandates and Of Employment: 182 days plus up to 10 days for summer guidance at per diem rate
