Why Your Role Matters:
Under the direction of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences School Manager the Academic Support Officer (Research) provides administrative support and assistance within the School to ensure effective delivery of the teaching and research activities of the School. The Academic Support Officer plays a key role in the establishment maintenance and improvement of School systems and processes. As a key member of the School Office Administrative team the Academic Support Officer will contribute to team initiatives and promote productive working relationships with Faculty and University colleagues Defence and industry stakeholders visitors and students.
Accountabilities:
At a Level 4:
Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers.
Provide direct and indirect support to higher degree research (HDR) candidates by providing school orientation as well as general administrative advice of a non-academic nature.
Provide support to key HASS staff members including diary management meeting coordination travel arrangements preparation of correspondence papers and meeting agendas.
Perform a range of general administrative duties in support of our HDR students accounts payable and invoicing financial reconciliations maintenance of School website databases and mailing lists and supporting School events.
At a Level 5 (in addition to Level 4 accountabilities):
Respond to complex matters whilst using judgement and initiative in conjunction with demonstrating an understanding of and applying University policy and procedure.
Involvement in HASS recruitment and Human Resources administration review and administration of financial transactions and processes and assist with management of School facilities.
Provide high level support in research administration matters in order to meet academic obligations centrally.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of systems processes and procedures within the School Office.
Develop and maintain professional networks with other Schools and business units across UNSW Canberra.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
At a Level 4:
The completion of a post-secondary level qualification with relevant work experience or equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education training or experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbally) with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing spreadsheets databases internet and email with the ability to learn and contribute to learning new systems and procedures.
At a Level 5 (in addition to Level 4 skills and experience):
Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage moderately complex tasks with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Highly developed organisational skills and proven ability to work within strict deadlines in a busy and varied office environment.
Demonstrated ability to contribute to initiate and establish new procedures both independently and as part of a team escalating issues when necessary.
