Job Description
Summary:
This position works directly with customers and prospects on their optical component requirements including preparing quotes recommending alterative processes to improve manufacturability. Manufacturing/Sales Engineer position also works closely with production to optimize processes develop new capabilities and address quality problems when they arise. A customer focused attitude and a logical problem-solving ability is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Cultivate and preserve strong relationships with customers and vendors. Works to ensure customer satisfaction by providing exceptional service including technical guidance to customers and to our production areas. Reviews customer documents and prints interprets specifications to develop and prepare cost estimates based on internal costing criteria; follow up with customers and prospects Optimizing manufacturing processes for all new parts Completes necessary paperwork for each job including required documents for production accounting and other inspection Continually develop knowledge of our capabilities and resources along with emerging trends in our industry Coordinates with production supervisors to prioritize scheduling depending on customer requirements as needed. Interface with all levels of personnel in the production area to address production and quality issues. Researches new technology materials and methods to improve efficiency in production and service to our customers. Designs special tooling when required for production including spot tools holders and centering wheels etc. In addition any new processing materials including pads slurries or loose abrasives are approved and ordered by engineering When necessary initiates process and print changes Confers with the management and production on the following subjects: space requirements workflow manufacturing capabilities capital equipment acquisition layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency etc.
Occasional travel to visit customers and prospects attend trade shows and educational workshops.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. S. preferable Engineering or related field from four-year college or university; or minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Strong communication skills with all levels of employees and customers. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. CAD SolidWorks or the like.
