Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno (University of Nevada or Nevada) the flagship land-grant institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education seeks several dynamic Directors of Development to join the University Advancement Division and lead major gift fundraising for three of their academic units (College of Liberal Arts Orvis School of Nursing a dynamic Deirecond School of Public Health). This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned advancement professional to play a pivotal role in building private philanthropic partnerships that fuel academic excellence enhance student experiences and shape the future of education at Nevadas flagship university. The Director of Development is charged with identifying cultivating soliciting and stewarding major gift donors ($25000) while aligning fundraising strategies with the Colleges mission and priorities. Reporting to one of the Executive Directors of Development (EDOD) and working closely with the units leadership the Director of Development will identify cultivate solicit and steward major gift donors The Director will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors grow philanthropic engagement and serve as a strategic partner to faculty and administrative leadership.

Today the University has cemented its status as a research powerhouse earning multiple Carnegie Classifications including an R1 research designation and the prestigious Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The Universitys most recent comprehensive campaign Building What Comes Next: The Campaign for the New Nevada concluded in March 2022 and raised more than $502.8 million positioning the University to address the worlds grand challenges from climate conservation to agriculture sustainability to medicine and bioscience innovation.

The ideal candidate is tenacious proactive and driven by outcomes with a strong sense of initiative and urgency. They take ownership embrace challenges and focus on solutions rather than obstacles. Comfortable managing a portfolio and working independently they are motivated by goals metrics and meaningful engagement with donors. The Directors must be based on campus and will travel at least once a quarter potentially more as strategic priorities dictate.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degreeand four (4) years of related professional work experience or Masters Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience in successful professional experience is required preferably in higher education fundraising non-profit or in a related field which requires strong relationship-building and outcome driven components.
