Position Summary
The Research Technician will provide support for Dr. Peggy Cotters laboratory. The lab investigates bacteria- bacteria interactions and bacteria-host interactions. It uses genetics molecular biology and biochemistry approaches to understand how genes and the proteins they encode contribute to these interactions. The Research Technician will prepare reagents and media for experiments maintain lab supplies and make sure clean glassware test tubes pipette tips etc. are available. The Research Technician will place orders for supplies. And the Research Technician will assist other members of the lab with their experiments. Specific lab skills include routine molecular biology techniques ( DNA / RNA preparation PCR molecular cloning) data collection data entry and some data analysis.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Prior experience in a research laboratory. Knowledge of general lab safety procedures. Conceptual understanding of aseptic technique PCR DNA / RNA extraction. Ability to read and follow written protocols. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word Excel and PowerPoint). Must communicate well with other members of the lab. Must have good time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Exposure to course work in biology microbiology molecular biology and/or a related field. Willingness to work with animals is desired.
