High Point University seeks a qualified part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach ASL I and ASL II courses at the undergraduate level. The Adjunct Instructor will facilitate language acquisition and cultural understanding focusing on foundational and intermediate ASL skills. The position reports to the department chair and works collaboratively to ensure alignment with departmental standards and outcomes. This is a teaching-focused role with responsibilities limited to instructional and directly related activities for ASL I and II.
Job Duties:
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction for ASL I and ASL II courses fostering students language acquisition and cultural competence
- Develop course syllabi lesson plans and instructional materials in accordance with departmental guidelines and course objectives
- Assess student learning through assignments quizzes exams and performance-based evaluations providing timely and constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance progress and grades and submit final grades according to university deadlines
- Hold at least one hour of office hours per week per course for student consultation and support (this can be virtual)
- Incorporate instructional technology and multimedia resources to enhance the learning experience as appropriate
- Stay current with developments in ASL pedagogy and Deaf culture to ensure the accuracy and relevance of course content
