Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse Ambulatory Procedures Unit (APU) - (Day & Evening Shifts)
Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda MD
Start Date: October 1 2025
Work Schedule:
- Day Shift:
- Evening Shift:
- Rotating 8 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday; flexibility required
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Experience: Must have 2 current years of experience as a Medical-Surgical Nurse on an inpatient surgery ward or outpatient surgery center.
- License/Certification: Active unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory; BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Responsibilities
- Provide pre- and post-procedural care for patients undergoing outpatient surgeries
- Assess plan implement and evaluate nursing care using established protocols
- Administer medications and IV therapy safely and accurately
- Monitor patient vitals responses and recovery following sedation or anesthesia
- Document care assessments and treatments in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Collaborate with surgical anesthesia and nursing teams for coordinated care
- Manage and maintain medical equipment (e.g. NG tubes foleys wound vacs)
- Educate patients and families on procedures recovery and discharge care
- Uphold infection control patient safety and confidentiality standards
- Support emergency response efforts (e.g. CPR rapid interventions)
