Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for mechanical engineering designs on small to medium retrofit environmental and new generation projects. This role involves leading mechanical design activities developing datasheets providing technical direction to designers and contributing to project scopes schedules and budgets. The engineer will also assist in system checkout and startup when needed.
- Conducting mechanical design activities including pipe sizing and routing material selection pipe support design valve selection P&ID development equipment layout equipment specifications and hydraulic calculations.
- Developing datasheets for valves and other equipment.
- Providing technical direction to designers.
- Developing project scopes schedules and budgets.
- Assisting in checkout and startup of systems when necessary.
- Developing preparing and checking of P&IDs.
- Overall design and layout of piping systems pipe sizing and routing material selection pipe support design equipment selection.
- Preparation of inquiry packages/data sheets and specification of tanks pumps and balance of plant equipment.
- Accredited bachelors degree in mechanical engineering.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Significant experience with design of new construction and/or retrofit of power generation or heavy industrial facilities.
- Significant knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles.
- Proficiency with applicable codes standards and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in development preparation and checking of P&IDs.
- Experience with overall design and layout of piping systems pipe sizing and routing material selection pipe support design equipment selection.
- Preparation of inquiry packages/data sheets and specification of tanks pumps and balance of plant equipment.
- Experience with hydraulic calculations.
- Significant working knowledge of processes equipment including piping valves (manual/control/relief) pumps pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
- Experience with relief valve and control sizing.
- Ability to build effective relationships with plant staff design engineering staff and/or vendors.
- A professional engineer license.
- Pipe-Flo (or similar software) experience.
- Making sound independent decisions with minimal information.
