PART-TIME MAINTENANCE CUSTODIAN
The Maintenance Custodian is responsible for the cleaning and routine maintenance work in the Park Districts satellite facilities and the adjacent grounds and structures. This position includes afternoon and weekend hours and some holidays. The Maintenance Custodian position is a part-time position. Tentative hours will be Sunday 6:30 am 3:00 pm Tuesday 2:30 pm 8:00 pm and Thursday 2:30 pm 8:00 pm.

ABOUT US
The Oak Lawn Park District incorporated in 1944 has a long and proud history of serving the recreational needs of our 56000 residents with a myriad of recreational programs and services. We operate under the state tax cap as a municipal corporation meaning we are our own taxing body. Overseen by a Board of five elected officials the District manages a combination of 34 parks and facilities which cover over 280 acres. In addition we manage a Special Recreation Cooperative that offers recreational programs and services to individuals with disabilities in 9 municipalities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies and basic tools
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must be able to work independently
- Must have decision making skills
- Must be able to take the initiative with tasks
- Must have good communication skills
- Must be able to organize and prioritize duties and responsibilities
- Must possess a valid Illinois Drivers License
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR
Superintendent of Parks & Planning
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs custodial maintenance activities in the upkeep of Park District buildings
- Cleans and washes floors walls and windows
- Cleans restrooms in facilities and parks and replenishes supplies
- Empties wastebaskets and other trash
- Strips and waxes floors
- Moves furniture and equipment as required
- Changes light bulbs and batteries
- Cleans adjacent grounds of litter and sweeps walks
- Able to safely operate agency vehicle
- Submits daily reports of work performed
- If a major event occurs that limits park district operations or forces a park district shut down and restricts employee from performing their normal job duties they may be assigned to duties outside of their job description as warranted by the situation
- Assist in fulfilling the agencys mission vision and strategic plan including attending any related meetings or performing any related job duties
- Obey and enforce the practical safety rules regulations and procedures established by the safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Shovels snow as needed
- Operates gas powered snow blower as needed
- Spreads salt on sidewalks as needed
- Reports needed building repairs
- Acts as a watchman when necessary
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Must be able to work 12 to 19 hours per week
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must be able to stand move and perform labor activities for long period of time
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- To work alone without supervision
- To work a varied schedule as required
- To interact with patrons in a relaxed and friendly manner
- To use good judgment in the absence of supervision
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Exposure to rain snow ice heat cold and other extreme weather conditions for long periods
- Worker is exposed to chemicals including but not limited to cleaning supplies
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS:
- Employee must have the ability to follow directions
- Employee must use good judgment to assess order and importance of tasks
- Employee must possess time management and organization skills to effectively perform his/her job
- Employee must have ability to interact appropriately with patrons and staff members
- Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all
aspects of this position
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
- Must be certified in CPR/1st Aid/AED or willing to become certified within a specified time frame.
