Position: Dean - In-School Suspension (ISS)
Location: Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School Bethlehem PA
Schedule: Full-time 10-month position
Reports to: Building Administrator
Position Summary:
The In-School Suspension (ISS) Dean is responsible for supervising students assigned to in-school suspension and providing a structured supportive restorative environment that promotes accountability reflection and continued academic engagement. If no students are assigned to ISS the Dean will provide coverage and support for the middle school program as assigned by the building administrator.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise students assigned to the ISS room throughout the school day ensuring a safe respectful and structured environment.
- Foster a restorative atmosphere that encourages students to reflect on their actions repair harm where possible and reintegrate positively into the school community.
- Guide students through reflective activities such as journaling conferencing or goal-setting to promote accountability and personal growth.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure students remain engaged in academic work during suspension and receive support for completion.
- Monitor and document student attendance academic progress and behavioral observations while in ISS.
- Support students in identifying the root causes of their behavior and developing strategies for future success and make referrals to school resources as appropriate.
- Communicate regularly with administrators counselors and behavior teams to coordinate support follow-up and reintegration plans.
- Uphold school code of conduct and model school-wide behavioral expectations using consistent restorative language and practices.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling student records and communications.
- Provide general support for the middle school program when no students are assigned to ISS as directed by the building administrator.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree preferably in education counseling psychology social work restorative practices or a related field.
- Experience working with adolescents in educational behavioral or youth development settings.
- Demonstrated understanding of restorative practices trauma-informed care or positive behavior interventions is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal listening and de-escalation skills with the ability to quickly build rapport and trust with students.
- Ability to remain calm compassionate and solution-oriented when addressing challenging behaviors.
- Capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with administrators teachers and support staff.
- Commitment to promoting a safe inclusive and respectful school climate through restorative and student-centered approaches.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to evolving student needs daily assignments or changes in school routines.
