Job Description

Position: Mental Health Clinician III $901217

Program: Youth Mental Health

Department: Youth Services

Reports to: Program Manager Youth Mental Health

Compensation: $48.08-$63.44 per hour plus $1.75 per hour Shift Differential Premium for hours worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Thursday and Friday 11:30am-7:00pm Saturday 8:00am-2:30pm

Status: 50% Part-Time Non-Exempt Union

Probation: 90 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals clothing support groups a charter high school GED and college prep program an employment preparation training and placement program case management counseling a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP). Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home in school or in systems of care.

JOB SUMMARY: Conducts individual and group counseling services to youth at risk of or experiencing homelessness to assist them in achieving housing stability and permanency. Provides clinical supervision to unlicensed staff clinicians and/or interns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Counseling Services

  • Conduct individual and group counseling for youth program clients and document progress promptly in client records.
  • Serve on-duty to address walk-ins manage crises and respond to general inquiries or crisis calls.
  • Perform client intakes complete required documentation and route records to supervisors for disposition or placement.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to internal and external services; ensure follow-up for continuity of care.

Program Support and Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating the work of paraprofessional staff and Mental Health Clinicians at all levels.
  • Engage in program planning evaluation dissemination activities and training with supervisors and management.

Management Responsibilities (Budgetary & Direct Supervisory)

  • Provide weekly individual and group supervision to clinicians and/or interns.
  • With completion of 12 CEU hours in Clinical Supervision oversee unlicensed clinicians and interns.

Other Duties

  • Participate in Quality Improvement processes within Youth Services.
  • Contribute to Clinical Case Conferences by presenting cases for review.
  • Participate in staff and planning meetings as needed.
  • Ensure timely thorough and legible completion of all client documentation and submit records daily.
  • Notify supervisors of changes in appointment schedules as required.
  • Attend mandatory monthly in-service training sessions.
  • Participate in clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision weekly.
  • Take part in broader staff meetings and other organizational meetings as required.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
  • A passion for the Centers work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
  • Masters in behavioral science discipline holds license as an LMFT or LCSW.
  • Licensed in applicable field of practice for a minimum of two years.
  • Four years paid post graduate counseling experience i.e. residential care social services child welfare services general counseling chemical dependency treatment juvenile justice youth services etc.
  • Ability to work as a team member dedicated to generating resources/services to gay lesbian bisexual & transgender communities.
  • Proven ability to work under direct supervision.
  • Bilingual skills a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).
  • Ability to relate in a non-judgmental and respectful manner to gay lesbian bisexual and transgender individuals or people experiencing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong organizational detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills and knowledge including word processing database operations spreadsheets and other software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races ethnicities nationalities sexual orientations gender identities gender expression socio-economic backgrounds religions ages English-speaking abilities immigration status and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
