Position Overview
The Assistant Principal for Student Services is a key member of the schools administrative team reporting directly to the Principal. This individual is responsible for overseeing special education services within the building and ensuring that all team meetings and special education processes are conducted effectively in compliance with state and federal regulations. The Assistant Principal for Student Services supports the development of inclusive practices and fosters an environment that ensures equitable learning opportunities for all students.
Qualifications
- Massachusetts licensure as a School Administrator/Assistant Principal (or eligibility)
- Masters degree in Special Education Educational Leadership or a related field
- Minimum of five years of experience in special education or student services
- Strong understanding of special education law and best practices
- Demonstrated ability to lead effective meetings and foster collaboration among staff and families
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Educational Team Chairperson leading and facilitating IEP meetings eligibility determinations and team-based student support meetings.
- Oversee the implementation of special education services within the building ensuring appropriate support staffing and resources are in place.
- Collaborate with special education staff general education teachers school counselors and related service providers to promote effective instructional practices that meet diverse student needs.
- Monitor student progress and ensure timely completion of IEP evaluations documentation and parent communication.
- Serve as a liaison between school families and district special education leadership to ensure consistent communication and alignment with district goals.
- Participate in and support school-based leadership activities including safety planning student supervision and community engagement initiatives.
- Assist the Principal with schoolhouse responsibilities including supporting the supervision and evaluation of staff overseeing student discipline managing school operations contributing to school improvement planning and ensuring a positive and safe school climate.
- Assist the Principal with school-wide administration and perform other duties as assigned.
