Chef / Kitchen Manager The Nitro Bar (Thames Street Newport RI)

Location: Newport Rhode Island

Job Type: Full-Time

The Nitro Bar is a fast-paced high-volume coffee shop and kitchen known for delivering exceptional coffee standout breakfast items and a strong sense of community. Our Thames Street location sits in the heart of Newports bustling downtown where we pair specialty coffee with chef-driven food in a space thats welcoming energetic and always evolving.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Chef/Kitchen Manager who thrives in a high-energy high-volume environment and is passionate about great food strong systems and leading an engaged team. This role is both hands-on and strategicperfect for someone who loves to cook while also ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly efficiently and cleanly every day.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead day-to-day back-of-house operations with an emphasis on execution cleanliness and communication
  • Train schedule and support your kitchen team.
  • Foster a respectful team-oriented kitchen culture aligned with The Nitro Bars values
  • Work closely on the line with your team and cultivate a team that can excel in line and prep experience.

Menu Execution & Development

  • Maintain consistency and quality in all dishes
  • Collaborate with ownership on menu adjustments prep systems and product feedback
  • Ensure food is prepped and executed to spec during high-volume service

Inventory Ordering & Cost Controls

  • Manage inventory ordering and supplier relationships for food and BOH supplies
  • Maintain food cost goals through smart ordering waste reduction and portion control
  • Ensure all cold and hot food equipment is used and maintained properly

Compliance & Cleanliness

  • Maintain strict adherence to all food safety sanitation and health codes. Maintain your food safety manager license.
  • Lead regular deep cleans daily opening/closing kitchen checklists and kitchen walkthroughs
  • Ensure proper labeling dating and storage of all ingredients

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience as a kitchen manager sous chef or chef in a high-volume fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Experience managing kitchen scheduling labor budgets and cost controls
  • Familiarity with breakfast service a plus
  • Must be able to work on-site mornings weekends and holidays as needed
  • ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
