NDDOT Starting Salary for Fleet & Equipment Technician II: $4819 per month

NDDOT Starting Salary for Fleet & Equipment Technician I: $4337 per month

Summary of Work

As a Fleet & Equipment Technician you will repair vehicles and equipment to keep vehicles and equipment ready for use you will diagnosis and repair all fleet trucks and DOT equipment. Install different components to DOT equipment and vehicles including radios safety lighting light bars sirens etc. Your duties will include:

Automobile Repair Troubleshoot and repair systems on cars and pickups; computerized automotive systems with use of complex computer diagnosis system electrical transmission differentials drivelines clutches heating and air conditioning carburetors and fuel injection systems brakes and antilock systems tires windshields and computerized air bag system and body computers.

Radio Installation and Accessories Installation of 2-way radios wire and design wiring schematics for electrical accessories roof antennas safety equipment prisoner cages red lights on law enforcement vehicles. Install emblems decals and stripes cut out switches for Game and Fish enforcement vehicles and mobile vision camera and work with mobile data computers.

Light and Heavy Truck Repair Troubleshoot and repair single and tandem axle trucks; brakes hydraulics clutches drivelines electrical gas and diesel engines tune-ups transmission repairs windshields electronic shift automatic transmission electronic instrument cluster computerized diesel engines with use of lap top computer to diagnose electronic or hydraulic systems and antilock brake systems.

Heavy Equipment Tractors & Minor Equipment Repair testing replacing or rebuilding as needed; Troubleshoot and repair; cooling electrical steering systems brakes gear boxes clutches hydraulics transmissions engine repair gas and diesel differentials hydrostatic drive transmission antilock and air brake trailers and electronic instrument cluster.

Heavy Equipment Operation- Perform periodic equipment operation along with performing snowplowing and snow removal on state and interstate roadways.

Shop Maintenance and Recordkeeping maintain tools and shop area fill out time sheets accurately use Fleet Focus system check and report accident hazards.

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position as a Fleet and Equipment III you must have a Class B Driver License completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology and 2 years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity as those listed in the summary of work.

Completion of a three-year master technology program and one year of work experience performing duties listed in the summary of work can substitute for the 2-year curriculum and 2 years of experience.

Work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement of the basis of one year of work experience for one year of education.

To be considered for this position as a Fleet and Equipment II you must have at minimum a Class A permit by the first day of employment completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology.

Work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement of the basis of one year of work experience for one year of education.

The employee will then have 12 months to take the behind-the-wheel exam and get the class A drivers license with air brakes and with a cargo-tank endorsement. The district will make the equipment available for the employee to practice driving during this time.

As a Fleet and Equipment Technician I you must have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Class D Drivers license.

Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from any district office.

Position may require work after hours on weekends and holidays during road and weather emergencies; demonstrated ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic. May be required to plow snow. Safety training will be provided.

As determined by the district engineer or division director employees will at times be required to report to work within 30 minutes in situations involving emergency storm or public safety concerns. Employees with residence outside the 30 minute requirement must make appropriate arrangements to make themselves available during such conditions.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test medical screening reference check and driving records check.
