Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist is required.
Masters degree is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses
Active and valid license with ASCP or comparable National certification at hire or eligible to sit for certification within 6 months.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required through American Heart Association upon hire.
Minimum Work Experience
One year experience in a clinical laboratory as a technologist hospital environment needed. For third shift at least three years of experience is preferred.

Works inside and is exposed to infections from disease-bearing specimens and to odorous chemicals and specimens. Constantly required to hear normal sounds with some background noise as in answering phone intercom etc. Often exposed to electromagnetic radiation as in CRTs or VDTs. Position Summary
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.
Reports to: Director of Laboratory
Responsibilities of the Position
Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusions.
Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality effective manner.
Analyzes test results for accuracy acceptability and critical limits and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.
Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient physician or registered nurse.
Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned by laboratory supervisors or director.
Performs phlebotomy procedures in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
Assists with all general clerical work such as QC QA and answering phones and looking up reports.
Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.
Reviews approves and maintains all patient and QC results on a daily basis.
Assists in developing and maintaining procedure manuals.
Accurately register client samples results with comments order tests cancel and add tests as required.
Works unsupervised and uses good judgment to make independent decisions in any department assigned to.
Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in assigned departments.
Assists in evaluating new laboratory equipment and problem laboratory procedures.
Assists in training new employees on laboratory policies and procedures.
Other tasks and duties as assigned.
