About the unit
6 South is a 32-bed surgical unit with a primary focus on post-operative care of the abdominal surgery patient. You will work very closely with the surgeons and surgical residents. The unit fosters good team work a friendly atmosphere good collaborative relationship with the multidisciplinary team members of case management PT/OT Dieticians and social work. The unit fosters open communication professional autonomy a multicultural atmosphere certified preceptors well-structured atmosphere and will enable you to have a large variety of patients to allow for great nursing experience and development of assessment skills. The unit has 8 telemetry beds for patients requiring cardiac monitoring post-surgery.

Scope of work
Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations suctioning irrigating colostomies applying restraints giving enemas douches and sitz baths or pericare.
Orientation
This position requires afull weekof corporate orientation. The schedule is Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm. You will be required to attend the entire week consecutively.

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
- Note: ADN graduates will required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position.
- RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure (or) Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam.
- Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire and may be requested for review periodically.
- Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations theory and clinical.
- Requires current BLS certification.
