What we want
The Research Technician I under general supervision performs entry level semi-skilled technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks. The Kirchner Laboratory is a new lab in the Department of Medical Physiology at Texas A&M College of Medicine.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in a biological sciences discipline.
Background in neuroscience an emphasis on neurophysiology is a plus.
Experience working in a wet-lab environment. This includes proficiency in pipetting aliquoting dilution and solution preparation.
Rodent handling and animal husbandry experience including breeding.
Rodent survival surgery expertise. Stereotaxic microinjections and coronary ligation (heart failure surgery) are particularly desired.
Immunohistochemistry expertise including perfusion and cryostat experience.
Brightfield and confocal microscopy experience.
Familiarity with acute brain slice patch clamp electrophysiology.
A 2-year minimum commitment.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Responsibilities
Research Technical Support
Assembles and operates technical equipment.
Sets-up and maintains equipment for the assigned laboratory and updates laboratory computers.
Maintains inventory and orders parts and supplies as needed.
Maintains laboratories according to Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) specifications.
Provides logistical support with computers in the laboratory.
Performs laboratory and prep room cleanup.
Performs survival surgery procedures in rats.
Performs immunohistochemistry stains.
Maintains detailed records of procedures performed and samples prepared.
Research Procedure Support
Assists senior staff members in conducting major experiments and consults in developing procedures.
Assists undergraduate and graduate students with their research projects.
Animal Colony Maintenance
Manages the rat colony for the lab. This includes pairing weaning and genotyping animals of multiple transgenic lines.
Maintains detailed colony and breeding records.
Performs other tasks consistent with the healthy maintenance of the animal colony.
Training
Participates in training and professional development sessions as needed.
Participates in lab meetings and learns theory of experimental procedures.
