Job Description

Job Summary

The Indigenous Studies program at UFV a gathering place rooted in ancestral St:lo Tmxw invites applications for a sessional appointment to teach courses in Indigenous Studies at the first- and second-year levels in the 2025-26 academic year. The successful applicant will be asked to teach from the following course selection:

  • IPK 102: Introduction to Indigenous Peoples Knowledges

  • IPK 202: Introduction to Indigenous Resurgence

  • IPK 302: Colonial Trauma Residential Schools and Resilience

  • IPK 332: Indigenous Governance and Leadership

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD or other terminal degree in Indigenous Studies or a closely related field (e.g. Anthropology Political Science History Sociology Cultural Studies). Candidates who are ABD may be considered.

We are seeking individuals who bring relational understanding of Indigenous governance knowledge and methodologies and who are committed to community-engaged land-based and inclusive pedagogies. A record of undergraduate teaching in Indigenous Studies or related interdisciplinary fields is required. Familiarity with Indigenous pedagogies including community-engaged and land-based learning is an asset. Experience with online and hybrid teaching modalities is also preferred.

  • A sample syllabus for a first-year Indigenous Studies course previously taught by the applicant

  • Recent teaching evaluations

  • A brief statement of teaching philosophy (with attention to Indigenous pedagogies or approaches)
