Director of Community Programs
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Status: Regular Full-time Exempt
Location: Onsite Anchorage AK
Regular Work Week: 8 hours per day 5 days per week Monday-Friday
Position Overview
The Director of Community Programs will serve as a member of the senior management team. In collaboration with the CEO the Director of Community Programs will articulate and implement the strategic vision and leadership of the department. This position will oversee a portfolio of programs and related services provide ongoing feedback and promote the continued financial viability of APICDA programs. The Director of Community Programs supervises the Program Department staff. This position reports directly to the CEO.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Anchorage office at a director-level ensuring consistency with APICDAs culture values and mission.
  • Serve as a liaison and advocate to the APICDA communities.
  • Actively engages in program development and implementation of community development plans and evaluates the effectiveness of plans to provide ongoing feedback.
  • Remain informed of social and economic developments in APICDA communities and lead initiatives to identify areas for improvement that are in line with CDQs mission and propose plans for a solution.
  • Serve as a member of the organizations senior management team to coordinate programmatic initiatives.
  • Develop strategies and conduct research to determine programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Lead strategic planning for program initiatives and community development.
  • Create and support a high-performance culture in the program department aligned with APICDAs core values.
  • Develop and maintain a team-based environment working collaboratively toward the departments vision and goal.
  • Participate in the budget development process.
  • Evaluate programs continually to determine their sustainability and provide effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Respond to community requests for APICDA involvement or donations in partnership with the executive team.
  • Work strategically with the executive team to identify opportunities for APICDA to leverage cross-program strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or address organizational challenges.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities
This position directly supervises and is responsible for the performance management of the following:

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional office environment with a variety of individuals having differing functions. The position routinely uses standard office equipment. Occasionally requires air travel to the remote communities in the Aleutian-Pribilof region of Alaska; when out in the field employees may be exposed to environmental hazards extreme weather conditions and loud noise.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this position require speaking and listening sitting standing climbing stairs and walking. Ability to occasionally lift items weighing less than 50 pounds. Ability to maintain standard work hours in a 40-hour Monday through Friday workweek environment. Additionally one must be able to understand instructions handle conflict and make effective decisions. Must have the ability to effectively work with various personalities and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in social work psychology education public health or another human services-related field. Equivalent education and training may be substituted for experience.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years senior leadership experience in a non-profit or philanthropic organization overseeing multiple programs or contracts at an organization serving underserved individuals.
  • Prior experience in the fishing industry native organizations non-profits and/or corporate-level experience is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency using the Microsoft suite of products including Google Mail Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Able to work professionally with confidential information.
  • Willingness to learn general knowledge of APICDA communities geographical locations fisheries and tourism.
  • Strong belief in the mission of APICDA and its purpose to carry out the CDQ requirements.
