Job Description

Position Overview:

The Amherst-Pelham Regional School District is seeking a highly skilled candidate for the School Adjustment Counselor / 504 Coordinator position at Amherst Regional High School. This is a dual-role position responsible for providing direct mental health support to students and overseeing the implementation and compliance of Section 504 plans. The successful candidate will offer individual and group counseling lead behavioral and threat assessments support IEP and 504 processes and collaborate with families staff and community providers to promote student success and well-being. This role is essential in fostering a supportive inclusive learning environment that addresses both the mental health and access needs of students.

Primary Responsibilities:

Counseling & Mental Health Services:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students social emotional and behavioral development.
  • Offer case management services to assigned students.
  • Conduct behavioral self-harm and threat assessments as needed.
  • Develop and implement behavior support plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and response.

504 Responsibilities:

  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist in progress monitoring of IEP goals related to social/emotional functioning as needed.
  • Lead all aspects of Section 504 processes including:
    • Serving as the Team Chairperson for the 504 Initial and Annual reviews
    • Ensuring legal compliance with Section 504 regulations
  • Collaborate with guidance nursing special education and teaching staff to develop and implement student support plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data systems related to 504 plans and counseling services.

Collaboration & Consultation:

  • Partner with teachers related service providers and administrators to ensure consistent strategies interventions and communication regarding student support.
  • Engage in school-based teams to align mental health and access supports.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with families and outside providers.
  • Attend district-wide and school-based meetings trainings and workshops related to mental health and student support services.

Additional Duties:

  • Attend district mental health team meetings and professional learning sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or designee.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Masters Degree or higher in Social Work Psychology Counseling or a related mental health field.
  • DESE School Adjustment Counselor certification (or eligibility).
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with social emotional and behavioral needs.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Section 504 laws procedures and compliance.
  • Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a school-based setting with diverse populations.
  • Bilingual and/or bicultural candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Building Principal and/or their designee and may also coordinate with the District Mental Health Team and Student Services leadership.
