Job Description:

Are you a passionate innovative and results-driven individual looking to make a profound impact The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to join the rehabilitative services team in Lincoln.

Each year hundreds of compassionate community partners volunteer with NDCS providing vital support inspiring hope and creating impactful opportunities for change. As our Community Engagement Coordinator you will be at the heart of this crucial work playing a pivotal role in building collaborative relationships with community partners that uphold the NDCS mission to Keep People Safe.

Job Duties:

The Community Engagement Coordinator works to nurture community partnerships and collaborate with facility religious coordinators to identify and address any gaps in faith-based services. As the chair of the Religious Study Committee you will maintain meticulous records of requests and actions from the committee conduct thorough research review religious requests and provide recommendations as necessary.

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • Provide oversight of the community partner database and application process.
  • Ensure uniformity and consistent application of services throughout the agency.
  • Engage with a diverse array of stakeholders including both faith-based and secular constituents and organizations.
  • Conduct regular facility visits and have direct interaction with the incarcerated population.



Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in public or business administration accounting or any discipline related to the work assigned. One year of experience in planning organizing and implementing program administrative or business financial functions. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in criminal justice personnel/human resources management communication studies business or public administration sociology or related field; OR four years of comparable work experience OR any combination thereof to include one year of supervisory experience. At least two years of experience working with systems-impacted individuals. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication office management and Microsoft Suite. Knowledge of or ability to research review and understand religion and issues of Constitutional law case law and RLUIPA.

Other: Transcripts may be submitted upon application. Must have a valid drivers license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
