Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Are you ready to ignite change in your community Join the Pima County Health Department as a Public Health Educator II and become a driving force behind innovative mental health and addiction education!

In this engaging role youll support the Division of Community Mental Health & Addiction (CMHA) by creating and implementing evidence-based and informed educational materials media campaigns and vital trainings/presentations. Youll collaborate with community members coalition partners schools and families to identify critical challenges and develop creative collective solutions addressing suicide prevention drug overdose prevention mental health education and trauma resiliency.

This position requires strategic thinking creative problem-solving and an energetic solution-focused approach to making a tangible impact on community well-being. You will become a key member of this dynamic team under the guidance of our Community Mental Health & Addiction Training and Education Coordinators.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Leads the development of comprehensive health education programs curricula and materials tailored to diverse populations and community needs;

  • Collaborates with program coordinators and manager to design evidence-based educational content and strategies;

  • Plans and facilitates health education sessions workshops and presentations in various community settings ensuring that content aligns with program goals and objectives;

  • Utilizes advanced teaching methods to engage participants encourage behavior change and promote health literacy;

  • Creates reviews and updates educational resources pamphlets multimedia materials and digital content;

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with community organizations schools healthcare providers and local agencies to enhance health education program reach and effectiveness;

  • Takes a lead role in community outreach building awareness of public health issues available resources and healthy behaviors;

  • Provides guidance and mentorship to junior health educators;

  • Offers training and professional development opportunities to build capacity within the team;

  • May supervise health education program staff.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health social work health education or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND one year of experience providing health education.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Three years of experience with Pima County as a Community Health Worker II Public Health Navigator or Public Health Educator I.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in public speaking training facilitation and/or leading group sessions.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience with trauma-informed care adverse childhood experiences mental health and/or substance use.

  • Experience researching developing and evaluating health education materials.

  • Experience with oral and written communication.

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items:The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
