POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting and Capital Analyst is responsible for supporting the financial and accounting operations associated with Milton Hydro and its Group of Companies and the effective business operations of the capital program. This role ensures the integrity and accuracy of financial records compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and effective financial management of capital projects. Responsibilities include performing a variety of accounting tasks analyzing financial data preparing reports supporting budgeting and forecasting processes and maintaining strong internal controls.
The role is responsible for coordinates data gathering and analysis identifying gaps and trends and producing reports related to the Miltons Capital and Maintenance Work Programs. The incumbent will develop processes procedures and tools to ensure effective governance compliance and internal controls. They will also develop databases and automated reports to assist leaders and external stakeholders in the efficient and effective management of the capital work programs. Additionally the role involves continuous improvement by identifying trends enhancing processes and ensures compliance with applicable standards regulations and controls.
KEY DUTIES
- Provide financial analysis relating to accounts receivable expansion and customer deposits deferred revenue and construction-in-progress accounting.
- Provide analysis on inventory trends and deliver ad hoc reporting as required.
- Provide collection and insurance claim support.
- Oversee the processing of staff expenses corporate credit card transactions journal entry preparation reconciliations and various other accounting functions.
- Facilitate training and re-education for business unit leaders on delivering the capital programs.
- Prepare on a quarterly basis new residential and commercial Economic Evaluations for Contributed Capital projects.
- Assist with the reconciliation of Month End Closing Statistics.
- Assist with the preparation of the final budget package as required.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly quarterly and annual OEB regulatory reporting.
- As needed provide backup to the day-to-day activities of the Accounting and Regulatory Department including cross training of the Financial Systems
- Research best practice and monitor OEB IMO and EDA websites for updates and potential impact on accounting environment; ensure compliance with financial changes.
- Analyze gaps and trends for various projects/ programs.
- Prepare reports pertaining to project/program status and outcomes.
- Gather data perform data analysis and create reports ensuring accuracy of data.
- Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives as well as process mapping activities in support of departmental continuous improvement programs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIE
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel Access and Word.
- Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
- Proven ability to analyze data identify risk areas and develop business solutions in a dynamic environment.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to develop statistical tracking methodologies to track performance and measurement against set standards of quality.
- Ability to develop dependable feedback systems and tracking.
KNOWLEDGE
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Intermediate knowledge and a working understanding of the specialized regulatory accounting framework
- Intermediate knowledge of IFS and/or other related ERP software is an asset
- Knowledge of Microsoft programming languages (such as VBA or SQL) to support data analytics is an asset.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in business or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years in an accounting/financial analysis role.
- Professional Accounting Designation CPA (CGA CMA CA) is required
- Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) designation is an asset.
- Experience in the electricity sector an asset.
