Job Description

- Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler.
- Consult with the interpreting physician regarding the ultrasound exam findings.
- Document exam information as required by departmental standards.
- Evaluate images of ultrasound exams and determine if the exam is of diagnostic quality.
- Assist with and provide ultrasound guidance for intraoperative and invasive procedures.
- Provide information and instructions to patient patients family or others regarding the nature of requested diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
- Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation I.V. placement vital sign monitoring and recording and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty staff students and the public.
- Instruct and evaluate sonography students on the operation of diagnostic equipment.
- Instruct medical residents on operation of diagnostic equipment.
- Maintain quality control with the ultrasound section in accordance with accepted departmental standards.
- Determine equipment malfunctions and contact repair service.
- Perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed by standard accepted methods of operation.
- Maintain certification as specified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Schedule: Variable hours Monday - Friday 7:30am - 5pm; Rotating weekend on-call time completed approx. every 4 weeks Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM 12:00 PM.
Location: Urbandale IA (and surrounding clinics based on clinical need/hours) *Initial training and work will be based at our Jordan Creek Clinic until our Urbandale location opens.*
Pay Grade:38
Requires completion of one of the following educational pathways:
- CAAHEP accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular TechnologyOR
Completion of a two-year or more accredited health science program (i.e. Radiologic Technology Medical Technology Nursing etc.) plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in SonographyOR
Completion of a bachelors degree plus completion of a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography
Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers within nine (9) months following the start of employment in at least one specialty area (i.e. Abdomen or Obstetrics/Gynecology) with preference given for two or more specialties.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Drivers License and ability to meet University of Iowa Fleet Safety Standards is required.
- Availability to provide support to other clinic locations based on clinical need/hours.
- 3 years of previous ultrasound experience
- Prior work experience in OBGYN ultrasound
- Membership in appropriate professional organizations desired.
- Willingness to train in additional modalities
- Previous autonomy experience in a fast-paced clinical setting
