Job Goal(s):
The overall job goal for this position is to assist students and staff with multiculturaleducation matters ultimately providing support to VB Tech bilingual students and theirfamilies and to work collaboratively with the specialized instruction department at Van BurenTech to provide support for CTE students.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma Required; Associates/Bachelors degree preferred
Work Experience:
Previous experience working with bilingual students/families preferred; experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom or education setting preferred.
Skills:
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with various groups.
- Ability to evaluate and guide staff working with non-English speaking constituents.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- Possess necessary academic skills to carry out teachers instructional plans and to aid students with language physical and/or learning challenges.
- Provide a positive and nurturing approach with students yet demonstrate the ability to be firm and consistent.
- Demonstrate the general philosophy that all students can learn if provided with learning activities individualized to meet their unique needs/characteristics.
- Ability to implement teacher lesson plans in a variety of settings including the classroom and work sites.
- Ability to get along and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability and willingness to take directions and constructive criticism and follow through with teacher plans and team decisions.
- Maintain open communication channels with teachers and staff and keep them informed of program and student concerns/observations.
- Ability and willingness to follow through with special education accommodations and differentiated instruction strategies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Coordinate the identification evaluation and academic assistance of English Language Learners (ELL) at Van Buren Tech.
- Work collaboratively with staff to initiate and develop activities and workshops to promote multiculturalism and provide direction to support our bilingual students.
- Work with local districts to coordinate/communicate comprehensive service plans for ELL students.
- Inform and provide professional development to VB Tech staff on ELL strategies and current trends in multicultural and diversity education.
- Participate in activities that promote post-secondary education to minority language students.
- Provide translation services when required.
- Demonstrate effective instructional behaviors & classroom/behavior management skills.
- Assist instructors in classroom preparation for instruction and organization.
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining records of students progress toward objectives.
- Assist in development of procedures and implement/collect data regarding effectiveness.
- Consult team and communicate effectively with others.
- Participate in IEPCs screenings and staff meetings as needed.
- Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential student and parent information.
- Accompany and supervise students at all sites. Instruct model and supervise students in skills required at work sites and act as a liaison on a daily basis between job site employees students and classroom staff.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
- Follow Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
- Regular and reliable in person attendance.
- Valid drivers license required.
Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
