Brighton High School is one of Bostons open enrollment comprehensivehigh schools. We are a school that welcomes all students and are truly reflectiveof the City of Boston. Brighton High School provides the following opportunities for our students:
- A Biomedical Pathway including classes in anatomy forensics medical technology medical diagnosticand more. The pathway includes internships for juniors and seniors.
- A Business and Entrepreneurship pathway including classes in business development marketing app development and digital business platforms.
- Spanish and Arabic language programs.
- Multiple AP classes including biology chemistry physics environmental science psychology language and composition literature human geography Spanish and art.
- Competency based special education programs engaging students through restorative practice
- Alternative HS program embedded within the larger comprehensive high school
- Multiple sports and club opportunities for students.
We seek an Assistant Head of School with experience in supporting and leading CTE pathway programs alternative education special education restorative practices and comprehensive ESL programming. We further seek candidates with experience developing internships building strong relationships with area colleges and universities and demonstrated success building partnerships with community groups and stakeholders in the City of Boston.

Through the interdisciplinary pathways Brighton Highs diverse students will gain a vivid understanding of the connections between academics and the world of work via interactions with industry partners job shadows internships and dual-enrollment industry certification programs. Students in these pathways will also benefit from the closeness of a small learning community. We are extending the day by 30 minutes to support student success and adding time in the summer and school year for staff professional development and collaboration. Teachers will have many opportunities for leadership and creativity as we build out programming to meet our students needs develop interdisciplinary curriculum and create exciting connections to outside partners.
Reports to: Principal/Headmaster
Responsibilities:
- Takes leading responsibility for promotion of a welcoming accepting positive restorative school culture where every student knows we care about them and miss them when they are not present.
- Takes leading responsibility for promoting the schools PBIS framework.
- Implement BPS Code of Conduct; advise Deans on application of the Code of Conduct.
- Provides coaching and leadership development support for classroom teachers Deans and Security Paras.
- Supervises and evaluates teachers Deans and Security Paras for professional academic growth.
- Assists teachers in the gathering and use of classroom data to inform instruction; Assist School Culture Team in gathering and using data to inform school-wide initiatives.
- Assists teachers in lesson and unit plan development aligned with the CCSS.
- Assists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Principal/Headmaster when he/she is not on the premises.
- Helps plan for and participates in ILT and participates in professional development planning.
- Seeks funding to enhance the cultural and academic programs at the school.
- Uses data to guide academic goals to assist the Principal/Headmaster in the preparation of Quality School Improvement document.
- Assists the Principal/Headmaster in planning activities including coordinating curriculum instruction students volunteers and parent activities and student support services.
- Engages the wider community to support school goals.
- Assumes full responsibility for all areas assigned to him/her and takes initiative and follows all jobs through to completion.
- Assumes other related duties as requested by the Principal/Headmaster.
Qualifications Required:
- Masters Degree in Education or related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience.
- Evidence of successful leadership experience.
- Massachusetts license for School Principal/Assistant Principal (grades specific).
- Demonstrated leadership qualities interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers administrators and parents.
- Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.
- Expertise in restorative justice practices; experience with administration of school discipline and attendance policies
- Experience with budget preparation and implementation.
- Advanced technology skills
- Experience with full process involved in development and implementation of master schedule.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Teaching experience in a K-12 educational setting.
- Experience as a school administrator.
- Both ESL and Special education licensure
- Expertise with professional development.
