Job Description
- Documentation Management: Maintaining accurate complete and timely dangerous goods paperwork and ensuring proper distribution to all necessary parties including shippers carriers and regulatory authorities.
- Regulatory Compliance: Inspecting shipments verifying documentation and ensuring proper labeling and packaging of dangerous goods in accordance with applicable regulations (e.g. IATA DOT).
- Training and Safety: Responding to incidents involving hazardous materials and potentially training staff in safe handling procedures. Also ensuring their own and the facilitys compliance with dangerous goods packaging and shipping standards.
- Load Management: Monitoring the receiving and packing of shipments to ensure turnaround times are met and coordinating deliveries to freight forwarders upon completion of packing.
- Customer Service: Maintaining close communication with customers and following their packing instructions as well as providing excellent customer service to foster and improve customer relations.
Qualifications :
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Six months of related experience in the station ramp hub or safety roles along with knowledge of shipping or processing dangerous goods packages.
- Technical Skills: The ability to lift 50 pounds and maneuver heavier packages with assistance or appropriate equipment along with completing the required dangerous goods and spill cleanup training. You must be able to read and understand manuals regulations charts and tables and communicate effectively.
- Certifications: Current dangerous goods certification (e.g. IATA DOT)
- Computer Literacy: Experience with computers including mainframe PC and internet/intranet applications can be beneficial.
- Soft Skills: Attention to detail effective communication and problem-solving skills are crucial for this role. Maintaining a constant state of alertness and working in a safe manner is also essential.
