Job Description

This position is based in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and follows a hybrid work schedule that combines in-office and remote workdays for eligible employees. Exceptional candidates may be considered for placement in Washington DC. Fully remote arrangements will not be considered.

Position Description

The Program Associate Legislative and Policy will provide administrative assistance and strategic guidance to the Legislative and Policy Department. The Program Associate will also conduct research and author blog posts on legislative topics of interest to FIRE.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Arranging travel for members of the legislative team
  • Preparing and filing lobbying disclosures and registrations
  • Providing support in reviewing state and local lobbying compliance laws as needed
  • Tracking staff lobbying hours and expenditures across the organization
  • Scheduling meetings and managing meeting agendas
  • Managing the departments bill and internal data tracking systems
  • Tracking legislative and policy department expenses
  • Authoring blog posts on legislative issues
  • Conducting research and analysis on behalf of the Legislative and Policy Department
  • Tracking and reporting departmental KPIs
  • Attending legislative conferences and managing FIREs involvement in sponsoring tabling and attending conferences
  • Assistance with copy editing
  • Sending mailings to lawmakers and staff
  • Assisting in departmental recruiting efforts by reviewing and interviewing job candidates
  • Overseeing the departments website
  • Serving as liaison between Legislative and Policy and other FIRE departments
  • Maintaining and updating departmental records and databases
  • Supervising the departments undergraduate intern
  • Performing additional duties as needed

This position involves a minimal amount of travel.

The expected start date for this position is as soon as possible.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will be organized have a self-starter mentality and have the ability to take direction and execute tasks effectively. Most importantly the candidate must exercise superb judgment and demonstrate a knowledge of and passion for FIREs mission and an ability to articulate that passion in a way that will make others enthusiastic about our cause.

A candidate must also be able to demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with FIREs mission and the ability to articulate it to others
  • Passion for free speech and/or due process
  • Strong organization time management and project management skills
  • Strong research analytical writing and communication skills
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve exercise discretion and use sound judgment
  • Ability to think strategically by assessing trade offs and making recommendations for potential solutions
  • Ability to effectively manage and handle changing responsibilities and projects
  • Ability to learn quickly

Salary and Compensation

The projected salary range is $47000-50000 based upon experience and education level. FIRE conducts periodic evaluations where employees may receive raises or bonuses for outstanding and excellent work. FIRE also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes employer-paid comprehensive health dental and life insurance; a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account option; matching retirement contributions; and a generous paid time-off plan.
