General Description: Works with the children youth and parents of the parish regarding faith formation and Sacramental preparation. Coordinate ministry services to help encourage elementary middle and high school youth to live as disciples of Jesus and to provide spiritual support and direction. The hours are up to 20 hours per week unless adjusted in advance by the Pastor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee Faith Formation classes and activities for the parish elementary through high school.
- Communicate and coordinate with the Diocesan Director of Faith Formation to ensure that diocesan requirements are met.
- Arrange for continuing education faith formation and necessary certification for catechists.
- Prepare and oversee sacrament-specific workshops and retreats.
- Communicate with and assist parents regarding their responsibilities for their childrens religious education.
- We warmly welcome and encourage the participation of new and returning families.
- Recruit and assist catechists for the Faith Formation program.
- Assure that all catechists and volunteers comply with the safe environment policies of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
- Oversee OCIC preparation for children returning to or entering the Church.
- Coordinate with the director of the OCIA program to address any overlapping issues e.g. baptism preparation classes for parents and sponsors or other concerns.
- Facilitate or coordinate joint events activities or projects with other parish ministries.
- Coordinate with the pastor deacon and sacristan regarding any special needs or liturgical requirements for First Holy Communion Confirmation and other liturgical events.
- Plan and implement typically bi-monthly youth meetings during the school year. These activities should be relevant and effective in instructing training nurturing and equipping young people to lead a Spirit-filled life of faith and forge deep Christian friendships.
- Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects that allow youth to learn how to live out their faith by helping meet the needs of others.
- Fostering the involvement of young people in the life of the parish including participation in parish activities.
- Work effectively with parents to foster support of the youth program including ongoing communication to provide opportunities for input and feedback.
- Assist youth with the annual Live Stations of the Cross presentation.
- Coordinate sending some of the youth to the annual Steubenville Youth Conference weekend during the summer and attend if possible.
- Communicate with the pastor and other staff about youth ministry activities.
- Be a resource person to the parish staff on issues related to youth and youth ministry.
- Explore initiating family-based RE catechesis such as the Good Shepherd Program.
- Other duties as requested by the Pastor.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- The ARE must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- The ARE must firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.
- Prior experience in religious education or parish ministry is preferred.
- Excellent communication interpersonal organizational and leadership skills are essential.
- Have a working knowledge of general office equipment such as copy machines.
- Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word Excel PowerPoint and Publisher).
- Ability to work with the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the Pastor other Staff and volunteers.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Have good time management and organizational skills.
- A strong understanding of religious concepts teachings and practices.
- Follow workplace policies and procedures as directed including but not limited to security fiscal responsibility employment and safety guidelines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients vendors employees and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
