Overview
The Controller must have solid communication analytical and management skills. Candidates should possess knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and is responsible for overseeing the month and year end closing of the books and financial statement preparations as well as multi-state payroll candidates need to compile financial reports based on the companys financial statements and implement policies and procedures for the financial reports. The Controller will oversee the operations of the financial team.
Duties
Their specific duties may include:
- Planning directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
- Supervise employees under the controller in preparing maintain and presenting financial reports and budgets.
- Understand and implement the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for the company to meet the needs of operations and legal requirements.
- Review financial statements to determine corporations financial health make recommendations for improvements and act accordingly.
- Oversee financial reporting and accurate documentation of internal and external financial statements like tax forms balance sheets or income statements and coordinate all related activities
- Works closely with upper management to identify areas to reduce cost and liabilities.
- Supervise end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states ensuring compliance with state-specific tax laws garnishments and wage/hour regulations.
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by analyzing and reporting appropriate data points.
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling analysis and corrective actions.
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets policies procedures and workflows
- Protects operations and management by keeping financial information and plans confidential
Qualifications
- Excellent leadership skills including goal setting motivating training and mentorship
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including writing speaking and active listening
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Good organization and time management
- Comfortable in a fast-paced or high-pressure environment
- Computer skills required including the ability to use Word Excel Power Point Share Point experience in an ERP environment encouraged.
Requirements
- A minimum of a bachelors degree in Economics Business Administration Accounting or Finance.
- 5 years of experience in a business or financial setting as a Controller
