Job Description

Minimum Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a program in Polysomnography is required(or equivalent experience as a Polysomnographic Technician).

Required Skills:
  • Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required.
  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent is required
  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RPSGT) required.

    *Effective January 2016 all technologists must be licensed with the VA Board of Medicine in Polysomnography*
Minimum Work Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred.

Position Summary:

Sovah Health - Danville is seeking a Sleep Tech - Nightshift to provide care for patients undergoing sleep studies and sleep disorder treatment. A Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D. D.O. or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

  • Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test.
  • Interviews patients to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
  • Performs testing and any additional testing required for the sleep disorder that is noted.
  • Scores interprets and reports results of sleep studies.
  • Educates patients about test results sleep disorders community support groups and available resources.
  • Prepares calibrates repairs and maintains equipment required for testing.
  • Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements.
  • Maintains proper supplies to care for patients.
