Job Description

Title of Position:

Academic Coach Program

1LT. Charles W. Whitcomb Middle School

This position is subject tocontinued available funding in the Marlborough Public Schools.

Work Year:

2025- 26 Academic Year

Reports to:

Principal and his/her designee

Salary:

Salary based on experience strongly competitive with classroom assistant salaries non-unit position.

Program Summary

Whitcomb Middle School has developed two innovative programs for adolescents who have high-risk behaviors and acute and recovering behavioral or medical health needs. The programs provide services and supports for students who are returning from hospitalizations struggling to attend school being tutored in home or hospital settings or have been referred to the restorative center for challenges. The program helpsadolescence and their families with the process of reentry and reintegration into the school community by supporting their academic social and emotional functioning. The Academic Coach works with students and teachers supporting students with a goal of a successful return to daily classes in as short a period of time as possible and will work closely with students to repair harm.

Job Goal:

To help students maintain academic progress in their classes and to help them process and restore relationships and a sense of community with the school.

Statement of Duties:

  • Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in the Restorative Center or Transitions Program.
  • Runs daily community building activities or circles with students in the Restorative Center/Transition Program.
  • Proactively communicates with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program requirements progress and status of each student in the Restorative Center.
  • Creates and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and reflective practices.
  • Provides tutoring and guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Assesses students accomplishments daily and provides progress reports to admin and teachers at the end of the day.
  • Counsels with colleagues students and or parents regularly.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and or school committees.
  • Participate in staff development programs.

Qualifications:

  • Current and Valid MA DESE license as a middle school teacher preferred; ESL and Special Education experience preferred;
  • SEI Endorsement ispreferred
  • Tier 1-3 Restorative Practices training preferred
  • Bilingual candidates (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex challenges
  • Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved
  • Such additional qualifications as the Superintendentmay find appropriate and acceptable
  • Bachelors Degree preferred equivalent education and experience considered
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience especially with high-risk students preferred
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Must work well as a team member
