Job Description

Introduction

Delawares Attorney General the States chief law enforcement officer has a broad responsibility to combat crime uphold civil rights safeguard families fight fraud and protect consumers in the First State.

In meeting this mission Attorney General Kathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the Criminal Civil Family Fraud and Consumer Protection and Civil Rights and Public Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office of the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity and passion.

Deputy Attorneys General with critical support from criminal special investigators victim service specialists paraprofessionals and administrative staff prosecute criminal cases enforce consumer laws provide counsel to state agencies ensure the publics access to open government protect the abused and much more.

Summary Statement

The Human Trafficking Unit established in 2022 by theDelaware Department of Justice is a specialized team dedicated toinvestigating and prosecuting cases involving forced labor and sex traffickingacross the state. The unit takes a proactive victim-centered approach workingclosely with law enforcement agencies service providers and communitypartners to dismantle trafficking operations support survivors and raisepublic awareness. The unit plays a key role in identifying traffickingpatterns executing search warrants and pursuing criminal charges againsttraffickers and those who contribute to the demand.

The Special Investigator will support the HumanTrafficking Unit by conducting investigative work aimed at identifyingdisrupting and prosecuting trafficking operations across the state. This roleinvolves close coordination with law enforcement partners prosecutors andvictim services organizations. This position may also be assigned toother investigative or operational duties in furtherance of the Department ofJustices mission as outlined in 29 Del. C. 2504 which authorizes theAttorney General and the Department of Justice to investigate matters involvingpublic peace safety and justice and to direct the activities of statedetectives.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:


  1. Minimum five years law enforcement experience.
  2. Ability to investigate complex and difficult cases both independently and as part of a team.
  3. Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports for review by a Deputy Attorney General for civil and criminal complaints.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Current or recent Police Officers Standards Training (POST) certification.
  6. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) DELJIS NCIC and LEISS.
  7. Possession of a valid drivers license.
  8. Ability to qualify to carry a DOJ-issued firearm.
  9. Willingness to travel and attend various training opportunities as needed.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
