    About the Position
    This is a .2 FTE continuing contract position for a School Counselor at Lynndale Elementary that begins with the2025-26 school year.

    Elementary school counselors workwith students teachers and families to support students in achieving the fullest potential educational experience from school. The elementary school counseloraccomplishes this by assessing student skills and by planning and providing academic and social emotional interventions.

    School counselors help implement and manage a comprehensive school counseling program in order for all students to learn and succeed. Spending 80% of time in direct services with students and 20% in indirect services to support parents students and staff. Consulting and collaborating with teachers and administrators to support the goals and mission of the school. Using their counseling skills to support student growth in learning strategies self management skills and social skills to become well rounded students.

    Essential Performance Responsibilities
    1. Implements the districts counseling and intervention program and serves as a resource for building staff administrators and parents in working with students creating a positive school climate and helping students develop a positive self-concept. Consults with district administration and building staff with respect to development of curriculum to meet identified needs of students. Participates or leads development of positive behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies.
    2. Provides for early identification and intervention of students academic and personal/social needs to help remove barriers to learning promote academic achievement and create a foundation for future success.
    3. Provides school orientation to new students and plans for and assists students in grade level transition. Develops and manages both school and individual student schedules. Coordinates the process for identification of students with IEPs or whom may qualify for an IEPand reports these to the appropriate district personnel. Provides academic and personal counseling to students.
    4. Works directly with students to help them learn how to manage themselves improve study and test-taking skills organize information make decisions and deal with change. Guides and assists students in peer relationships and in developing effective coping skills necessary to refuse participation in substance abuse physical violence or other at-risk behaviors. Provides individual and small-group counseling to support peer mediation and crisis intervention.
    5. Coordinates effort necessary for referral of families to special in-district and out-of-district services. Assists with staff training including training in identification of high-risk youth and effective interaction with those students in the school setting. Provides referrals for students and their families related to use misuse and abuse of drugs alcohol and tobacco.
    6. Makes class and community presentations in such areas as study skills goal setting career awareness and the world of work substance abuse education parenting school-to-work and multicultural/diversity awareness.
    7. Initiates and maintains adequate student and office records and school data basis for coordination of students total program.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    1. Knowledge of workingwith culturally diverse families and communities ability to strengthenengagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population in a counseling role.
    2. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    3. Ability to apply and effectively use a variety of personal and family counseling models.
    4. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    5. Ability to organize and coordinate work.
    6. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    7. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
    9. Ability to provide leadership with colleagues regarding areas of expertise and practice.
    10. Strong assessment analytical and diagnostic skills.

    Required Qualifications:
    Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) Certificate with a School Counselor endorsement or the ability to obtain one prior to the position start date. Applicants who hold a School Psychologist or Social Worker endorsement will also be considered.

    Salary:
    2024-25 Salary Schedule Range: $80136 through $143159(2025-26 Salary Schedule not yet finalized).Placement on this salary schedule is determined by FTE and official documentation verifying Educational Level and Certificated Work Experience and will be prorated for less than a full year and/or FTE.

    Benefits:
    Our benefits package includes Washington state health insurance coverage (SEBB) and a Washington state retirement package for eligible positions.
    • Eligibility for health insurance is based on whether the employee is anticipated to be compensated at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31). For the 2024-25school year a .5 FTE continuing contract position will meet that eligibility threshold. Eligibility for a non-continuing contract position will be determined at the time of hire by counting the total anticipated compensated hours from the date of hire through the end of the non-continuing contract. Benefitsinclude Medical Dental Vision Long-term Disability Life and ADD Insurance and options for HSA FSA and DCAP.
    • Eligibility for retirement is based on whether the employee is anticipated to work at least 70 hours per month for 5 months during the school year. For the 2024-25school year a .6 FTE (either continuing or non-continuing) meets that eligibility threshold.

    While fulfilling the responsibilities of this job the employee is expected to navigate various school and classroom environments. The role may involve assisting students who need physical support or exhibit challenging behaviors. The role requires communicating with others regularly. Tasks may include frequent manual work using hands or fingers as well as occasional reaching bending or twisting. The position may require moving objects regularly weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Visual requirements include performing close-range tasks and adjusting focus as necessary.
