Maintenance Technician
Location: 241 Greenhouse Road Lexington VA

ROCKBRIDGE AREA COMMUNITY SERVICES RACS is currently seeking a motivated qualified individual to work in our coverage area of Rockbridge and Bath County and the Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista. RACS will provide training supervision and education opportunities specific to the position.

Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the buildings and grounds of Agency including both Board-owned and HUD properties. The Technician will perform a variety of maintenance tasks directly and coordinate with contractors for specialized services ensuring that all facilities comply with applicable licensing and safety standards.
This part-time position (not to exceed 25 hours per week) reports to the Maintenance Manager and plays a critical role in the upkeep functionality and safety of agency properties. The Technician is expected to complete most tasks hands-on communicate with Program Managers and/or Directors before beginning work and escalate questions or urgent matters to the Maintenance Manager. In the Maintenance Managers absence direction should be sought from the Director of Finance & Administration or the Executive Director.
The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative independent judgment effective time management and the ability to maintain confidentiality. A valid Virginia drivers license and a safe driving record are required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred
At least 1 year of experience in building and grounds maintenance
Valid Virginia drivers license with a safe driving record
Working knowledge of basic building systems preventative maintenance and safety codes
Ability to perform hands-on tasks including plumbing carpentry and electrical repairs
Comfortable using tools and equipment such as drills saws blowers and welders
Able to read blueprints and follow maintenance plans
Strong organizational and communication skills
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in varied physical environments
Must be dependable able to work independently maintain confidentiality and respond to after-hours needs when required
Background Investigation Requirements: All applicants are subject to a background investigation. Investigations may include fingerprint checks (State Police); local agency checks; employment verification; verification of education (relevant to employment); and other checks based on the position.
Probationary Period: All persons that are newly hired rehired transferred promoted or demoted into a Rockbridge Area Community Services position must serve a new 6-month probationary period.
