Job Description

Employment Type: Full-Time

Summary
Keewaytinook Okimakanak (KO) is seeking a full-time Speech language Pathologist (SLP) position based out of Thunder Bay Dryden or Balmertown serving our KO communities . Speech language Pathologist responsibilities include the provision of clinical services: assessments consultation programming individual and / or group sessions education and referrals as part of the KO and community Child First Team serving children from birth to 18 years of age with a developmental delay or disability living in KO communities. The SLP will travel to each KO community for one week four times a year and will utilize telemedicine to provide follow up consultation teaching and reassessment when not in the communities.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Speech Language Pathologist reports directly to and works under the administrative supervision of the Jordans Principle Coordinator and KO Health Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides clinical assessment of speech and language functions of children from birth to age 18
  • Develops and deliver interventions that addresses identified need including:
    • Administration of diagnostic tests and interpretation of test results
    • Transmission of assessment information to childs family and others as directed by the family.
    • Program modifications.
    • Decision-making regarding the initiation duration or termination of treatments.
    • Service coordination as required for children with multiple needs.
    • Provides direct intervention on an individual or group basis for children.
    • Provides recommendations for individualized speech and language programs for children.
    • Provides consultation education and counseling to parents/legal guardians educators on pertinent speech and language topics.
    • Supervises the work of supportive personnel who provide services to children and families including developing speech/language goals for the child and regularly monitoring progress to adjust goals and strategies.
    • Plans develops and provides information education and consultation in the area of preschool speech and language issues to community organizations e.g. childcare and/or Early Years Centers agencies and public forums.
    • Consults collaborates and or/coordinates services with relevant agencies and professionals as appropriate including Early Years Centers Child Care Centers and schools with the goal of increasing community capacity to support preschool and school aged childrens speech and language development.
    • Maintains up-to-date recordings and other administrative requirements such as maintaining and reporting individual workload measurements data in accordance with KO policy

Work with the communities to Identify and evaluate the risks to the programs (clients staff volunteers) and assist the communities to implement measures to control and minimize risks

  • Keep accurate and timely records and reports observations
  • Reports incidents accidents and unusual activity immediately

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in and accept supervision/feedback from the Jordans Principle Coordinator and the Health Director

OTHER DUTIES

  • Accepts other duties as may be assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Registered and a member in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • Must be sensitive to the cultural traditions of the Keewaytinook Okimakanak people
  • Experience working with First Nation communities
  • Proven leadership abilities including accountability and work-habits
  • Experience and skills working in a political environment
  • Experience in collecting and reporting statistics
  • Knowledge of the complex multi-layered structure of health and social program targeted to children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families
  • Effective decision making and leadership qualities;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstration and oral presentation abilities.
  • Current valid Criminal Record Check
  • A valid drivers license.

Starting Salary:

  • Based on experience with a range of $80000-$90000 per year
