Summary:
The Special Procedures Neuro Vascular Technologist performs imaging procedures and assists in the performance of Interventional Radiology Neuro Endovascular procedures and Vascular Surgery (Hybrid). Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as assigned demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate age-based care to the patient population served based on the scope of services in the department.
Responsibilities:
in the checking of daily quality controls for a wide range of equipment utilized in the routine care of a patient presenting to IR Neuro Endovascular procedures and Vascular Surgery (Hybrid) ensuring medical equipment is in working order. Assists with inventory management and properly stocks assigned room prior to the start and end of shift to ensure all required supplies are available.
history and pertinent images with designated Radiologist/Surgeon and nurses to determine plan and equipment necessary for procedure. Properly identifies patient using two patient identifiers checks the imaging order for complete information proper procedure and schedules/prioritizes as needed. Explains the procedure to the patient with professionalism and compassion. Assures that informed consent has been obtained and risk of pregnancy has been assessed formal time out has been performed prior to the start of the procedure and that all questions and concerns have been answered to the patients satisfaction prior to commencing with procedure.
sterile tray and radiopaque materials for administration by contrast material maintaining integrity of the sterile syringe needles and draws up contrast for injections. Operates power injectors in preparation for and administration of contrast media under the direct supervision of the supervising physician in accordance with department policy and regulatory standards.
the physician in the performance of IR Neuro Endovascular Radiology and Vascular Surgery (Hybrid) procedures to include but not limited to positioning and prepping patient maintaining integrity of a sterile field circulating and scrubbing to assist with handling of instruments operating and monitoring equipment passage of catheters/guidewires calling out equipment readings and alerting team of patients change in condition within scope of practice.
Radiation Safety in accordance with regulations. Selects accurate technical factors on an individual patient basis. Applies knowledge of radiation physics and safety regulations to limit radiation exposure of the public patient fellow workers and self to as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) and exercises discretion and judgement in the performance of radiographic procedures.
proficient in the operation of post processing. Performs critique of exam for completeness and correct labeling. Systematically and continuously collects assesses and documents data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care for the patient. Is responsible for accurate and timely exam verification within the hospitals RIS system archival of completed studies to the PACS system and supply charging and inventory systems. (Hi-IQ).
technical and mechanical problems and performs minor maintenance on equipment. Properly enters service requests for equipment failure and notifies Lead IR Technologist or IR Manager appropriately. Assists in training of new technologists physicians and nurses.
