MSW Internship

The Childrens Connection Associate provides a range of group therapy programming services and activities for children youth and their families affected by incarceration. The Childrens Connection Associate is a part-time hourly position.

Personal Qualifications:

• Degree in social work family therapy counseling or other equivalent
• Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles methods procedures and standards
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
• Knowledge of community mental health resources
• Compassionate and accessible approach with youth
• Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
• Ability to work independently

Specific Responsibilities:

• Promote and facilitate support groups for school-aged children who had or have had an incarcerated loved one. The support groups meet in elementary and middle schools throughout the school year during school hours.
• Identify red flags in group dynamics and strategize to address issues
• Act as a liaison between Family Connection and the Sioux Falls School District
• Provide information and make presentations about Childrens Connection to the school counselors and teachers
• Participate in Childrens Connection staff meetings per counselor policies.
• Provide referrals to outside agencies for children and families needing additional assistance
• Complete paperwork and reports in a timely manner

Referral Network & Compliance

• Establish connections with other agencies to build a referral network and identify opportunities for collaboration
• Ensure organizational compliance with federal state and local regulatory requirements for mandatory reporting.
