The Childrens Connection Associate provides a range of group therapy programming services and activities for children youth and their families affected by incarceration. The Childrens Connection Associate is a part-time hourly position.
Personal Qualifications:
- Degree in social work family therapy counseling or other equivalent
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles methods procedures and standards
- Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
- Knowledge of community mental health resources
- Compassionate and accessible approach with youth
- Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
- Ability to work independently
Specific Responsibilities:
- Promote and facilitate support groups for school-aged children who had or have had an incarcerated loved one. The support groups meet in elementary and middle schools throughout the school year during school hours.
- Identify red flags in group dynamics and strategize to address issues
- Act as a liaison between Family Connection and the Sioux Falls School District
- Provide information and make presentations about Childrens Connection to the school counselors and teachers
- Participate in Childrens Connection staff meetings per counselor policies.
- Provide referrals to outside agencies for children and families needing additional assistance
- Complete paperwork and reports in a timely manner
Referral Network & Compliance
- Establish connections with other agencies to build a referral network and identify opportunities for collaboration
- Ensure organizational compliance with federal state and local regulatory requirements for mandatory reporting.
