Job Description

Work Flexibility: Onsite

Staff Engineer EH&S

Stryker is looking for a stand-out Staff Engineer EHS who will be focused on providing technical support and EHS leadership to the Mahwah site. You will be seen as a subject matter expert (SME) and a key contributor to the EHS strategy. This role mentors and support the site to ensure the delivery of EHS strategy and processes that meet business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and continuously improve the EHS management system to meet internal and external regulatory standards
  • Develop and deliver training programs including new hire EHS orientation and job-specific safety topics
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Prepare detailed EHS reports and metrics for internal teams and external agencies
  • Lead the site Emergency Response Program ensuring readiness through plans resources and training
  • Drive robust incident investigation processes and lead high-priority investigations
  • Assess potential EHS impacts related to changes in processes equipment or facilities
  • Ensure effective risk assessments and mitigation plans are in place
  • Maintain compliance with local state and federal environmental regulations (DEP EPA)
  • Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management including documentation
  • Lead and support site-wide EHS projects and cross-functional initiatives
  • Partner with site leadership to align on EHS priorities and drive a culture of accountability
  • Perform regular safety walks to proactively identify and address safety risks

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in EHS Engineering or related field
  • 4 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3 years in EHS engineering (risk assessment OSHA compliance emergency response)

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong communication organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Preferred certifications: First Aid CPR HazMat Technician Incident Command
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to influence and lead without direct authority
  • Certifications: CSP CIH etc
  • ISO 14001 and 45001

Travel Percentage: 10%
