Position Overview
The Warehouse Associate is responsible for providing storage retrieval and disposal services for the library system.
Essential Functions
- Creates and maintains an inventory of Library furniture office furniture Library machines and other related items for use by Library staff branches and departments
- Ensures there is enough space to store Library related items from branches and Administrative Headquarters
- Organizes and stores surplus Library equipment (including breaking down furniture) valuables and long-term records
- Prepares items for sale or permanent loan to staff public and other organizations with Delivery Services Managers approval
- Determines suitability of discarded donated books and other related materials
- Trains library employees how to sort discarded books and pack appropriately
- Sorts surplus and/or donated material and prepares them for sale or discard
- Disposes of materials that do not meet the selective criteria
- Recycles materials appropriately
- Coordinates disposal of books with Freight companies and manager
- Trains library employees on proper process for disposing discarded books and packing appropriately
- Handles inquiries about the Warehouse and stored items
- Maintains organization of the warehouse
- Check emails daily for warehouse work order forms to store library related materials
- Attaches labels to storage racks for department item space
- Maintains a clean workplace
Non-essential Functions
- Loads and Unloads trucks
- Safely operates forklift and pallet jack to load and unload materials
- Maintains and charges forklift and power jack
- Works with Drivers/Sub-Drivers who assist in the warehouse to deliver library items and materials (as necessary)
- May drive routes in lieu of delivery drivers and do drop off and pick up at other branch locations
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED Completion Required
- Warehouse/Production Environment Experience Preferred
- Building cleaning and organizational experience Preferred

- Must be at least 18 years of age
MVR Requirement
- Possession of a valid drivers license and a reliable personal vehicle for use in carrying out the duties of this position including transportation of materials and equipment (mileage reimbursed)
- Possesses the ability to drive MCPL vehicle according to company policy
Work Environment
- (Indoor) Works primarily indoors with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer and must have a reasonable tolerance for dust mold scents allergens and communicable diseases which enables the employee to handle library materials work in older buildings and interact with coworkers and the public.
