The Inclusion Special Education Paraeducator supports students with disabilities in the general education classroom and other inclusive learning environments. This position requires collaboration with general education teachers special educators and related service providers to ensure that students receive the appropriate accommodations modifications and supports necessary to access grade-level content and build independence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small group support to students with IEPs including students with autism and other disabilities to reinforce learning of academic and social-emotional skills introduced by the classroom teacher or service providers.
- Assist students in accessing and mastering instructional materials accommodations assistive technology and modified curriculum as outlined in their IEPs.
- Implement and support behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and classroom management strategies under the direction of special educators and related staff.
- Collect and maintain daily academic and behavioral data as directed to support progress monitoring and documentation for IEP goals.
- Facilitate inclusion by helping students engage in whole-group instruction small-group work and independent activities in the general education setting.
- Support students with transitions between activities classes and environments throughout the school day.
- Provide personal care assistance when necessary (e.g. toileting wash-ups feeding hygiene routines) while promoting independence and dignity.
- Assist with lunch snack and clean-up routines; help students build self-care and social skills in shared school settings.
- Supervise students during arrival/dismissal lunch recess emergency drills assemblies and field trips.
- Collaborate effectively with the classroom team to adapt instruction monitor behavior and promote student engagement.
- Build positive respectful relationships with students and foster a supportive inclusive classroom climate.
- Maintain professionalism confidentiality and a solutions-oriented approach at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or higher; OR Completing at least two years or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education; OR passing a formal assessment measuring ones knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading writing and mathematics. (WorkKeys or Parapro Assessment)
- Training or experience working with Special Needs Students preferred
- Experience working in an urban setting preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
