Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N) an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark New Jersey a city of promise is seeking a Program Coordinator I. Reporting to the Director of Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance ( VPVA ) the Program Coordinator I (Prevention Education Coordinator) will manage all programming and educational efforts geared toward enhancing awareness and increasing the Rutgers University-Newark communitys understanding of interpersonal violence. This position is responsible for and not limited to the following: Serve as the prevention specialist and will engage students and the Rutgers community through educational programming and training involving established student groups (i.e. HLLC Honors College) and other student organizations (e.g. SGA RAs Fraternity and sorority members student-athletes etc.) Engage in education and prevention across the campus in the areas of Interpersonal Violence (sexual violence domestic / partner violence stalking harassment) as well as trauma informed support and care Work with staff and faculty in the implementation of training and education Responsible for creative curriculum development enhancement of existing training maintaining and growing social media accounts/presence and overall student engagement for the department Share on-call and crisis intervention responsibility and in the absence of the Director serve as the office liaison between the department students and other resources/services Provide support to students in a variety of contexts including but not limited to: leading/supporting psycho-educational trauma support groups; individual consultation for resources and support coordination of care with other University entities; outreach and support to non-Rutgers resources and agencies Be a presence for the department within the RUN campus community coordinating with various RU-N student serving departments participating in events and programs as needed and prioritizing collaboration Provide supplemental oversight for students working and volunteering with the department The key focus of the position shall be: 1. Awareness of VPVA and services 2. Increasing student understanding of resources and Interpersonal Violence 3. Maintaining student engagement and collaboration
Overview
The Office for Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance ( VPVA ) at Rutgers-Newark serves the entire campus community with a mission to prevent interpersonal violence through education awareness and support. VPVA provides primary prevention programming and educational outreach to students faculty and staff on topics such as healthy relationships dating and sexual violence relationship safety and consent. In addition to proactive education VPVA offers trauma-informed mental health support for individuals impacted by interpersonal violence advocating for survivors and connecting them with both on-campus and community-based resources to promote healing and empowerment.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Social Work Counseling Student Affairs or Women and Gender studies preferred Clinical licenses- LSW LCSW LPC preferred Strong preference for both certifications- SART & DVRT
