Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada (Pauktuutit) is the national representative organization of Inuit women in Canada. Our mission is to foster a greater awareness of the needs of Inuit women and create change to advance womens full social economic and cultural participation in communities in Inuit Nunangat as well as cities across Canada where Inuit live.

As the national voice of Inuit women in Canada Pauktuutit has a key role to play in ensuring a gender-equality lens in policies impacting Inuit Women and in promoting greater progress in priority areas for Inuit women and children across health and well-being violence and abuse prevention - safety and socio-economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnerships across government departments key funders Inuit community groups and other stakeholder organizations.

Multiple roles of Policy Analyst focused in the areas of Violence and Abuse Prevention and Justice and Social and Economic Development.

Utilizing a gender-based lens Policy Analysts support the development and review of public policy to further Pauktuutits mandates and initiatives that support Inuit women.

An excellent communicator with a critical mind the Policy Analyst will be responsible for supporting advocacy priorities and activities that ensures all policy and knowledge mobilization initiatives consider model and actively promote cultural and gender equity at the core.


Responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with the departmental manager recommends and implements relevant and current strategic direction and initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the departmental manager identifies analyzes and recommends policy and legislative opportunities and supports submissions briefing notes and position papers to government and action plans on policy issues.
  • Gather and research information and statistics related to Inuit participation in the social cultural and economic context and provides recommendations for interpretation and application in consultation internally and externally with Inuit organizations.
  • Establish and maintain policy and research records as required.
  • Monitor and bring forward information to support recommendations about new and emerging policy and research issues and opportunities.
  • Develop drafts to support submissions to a range of governments and other partners.
  • Identify relevant funding sources and assist with the development of relevant project proposals and budgets.
  • Assist with planning and/or facilitating workshops meetings; work plan logistics/travel etc.
  • Support quarterly report process to the Board of Directors Advisory Committee(s) and others as required.
  • May represent the organization on various external working groups committees etc. at the request of the leadership team.
  • Support budget and other financial commitments to funders.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience with particular focus of a portfolio area including:
    • Minimum of 2 years working with federal provincial territorial Indigenous or urban government officials and funding organizations drafting proposals for opportunities to increase capacity building initiatives or supporting the development and implementation of public policy decisions.
    • Minimum of 1 year supporting assessment and analysis of social relating to Inuit or Indigenous people.
    • Experience in community-based research analyzing information and understanding of government policy matters impacting Inuit
    • Knowledge of current political and health violence and abuse prevention and socio-economic issues of Inuit highly desirable
    • Knowledge of IQ principles and the ability to apply when analyzing and advocating policy
  • Knowledge of policy matters in the areas of health and wellness and/or violence prevention and justice and/or Social and Economic Development issues of Inuit highly desirable
  • Experience in utilizing a gender-based lens to provide policy analysis and recommendations.
  • Ability to complete environmental scan of policies and assess impact on how Pauktuutit needs to shift to best support the mandate
  • Collaborator focused on mobilizing and leveraging capacities and interests towards project outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written to support policy analyses evidence-based decision-making results policy reports speeches and briefing notes and support translation of complex ideas to plain language information dissemination.
