To provide highest quality health care services in a professional and competent manner by using ultrasound for diagnostic purposes to produce images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner and to perform a full range of ultrasound studies including routine vascular and interventional procedures.Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Performs ultrasound procedures.
a. Corroborates patients clinical history with procedure assuring information is documented accurately and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
b. Consults with supervising physician and/or other medical staff regarding examination to be performed.
c. Prepares patient for procedures by providing instructions to obtain desired results gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
d. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the various types of ultrasound equipment in use in the department.
e. Adjusts technical factors appropriately to patient and body part being examined. Checks requisition for physician order accuracy notes and special instructions; and records pertinent patient history unusual conditions and limitations.
f. Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation check of armband or other means while maintaining patient confidentiality.
g. Performs appropriate ultrasound procedure according to predefined or customized clinical protocol.
h. Verifies informed consent for and assists a licensed practitioner with interventional ultrasound procedures.
i. Uses appropriate aseptic techniques when necessary.
j. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
k. Recognizes emergency situations administers first aid and/or CPR if needed. Follows appropriate procedures regarding potentially life threatening situations and assists physicians as necessary.
l. Reviews images for proper positioning technique patient identification etc.
2. Shares on-call responsibilities with other members of the ultrasound technical staff.
3. Provides patient education by describing tests and procedures
4. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunction. This includes appearance and cleanliness of area and restocking of area supplies
5. Provides input for supply decisions involving inventory and control of specific ultrasound related supply items.
6. Provides practical instruction for students and/or other health care professionals.
7. Participates in the departments quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties in the specialty area.
8. Pursues appropriate continuing education by attending meetings and seminars external to the department in order to keep current in the field and to maintain professional acumen.
9. Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized for procedures in the ultrasound area.
10. Maintains appropriate knowledge to recognize anatomical structures.
11. Obtain and record blood pressures (segmental systolic pressures) for evaluation of blood flow in the upper and lower extremities.
12. Complies with minimum standards as noted on the cover page of job description.
13. Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped with regard to the patients age and condition. Meets hospital and departmental guidelines for competency regarding Age Specific Standards in order to meet the needs for customers in all age groups.

Education and Experience Required:
school graduate or equivalent (G.E.D.)
2.Completion of one year (minimum) of ultrasound training.
3. Experience with the use of the following is preferred: real-time ultrasound instruments; Duplex Imaging Options Color Flow Doppler Peripheral Vascular equipment; Linear Array Phased Array Curved Linear Sector and Intracavitary Transducers; Quality Assurance Instruments Blood Pressure Cuffs Photocopiers Computers and Stethoscopes.
4. Computer experience.
Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:
Must be ARDMS registered in Vascular Ultrasound or ARRT (VS)
