You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailProvides prescribed medications drugs and other pharmaceuticals as needed and assures responsible provision of drug therapy for the purposes of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patients quality of life. Reports to the appropriate supervisor.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures objective quality assurance program safety environmental and infection control standards. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department such as evaluation result individualized treatment plans progress reports and other such reports. Verifies and accurately delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients; obtains patient history answers patient questions and explains procedure. Checks prescription diagnosis chart patient identification diagnostic reports etc. required for patient treatment. Interacts with physicist Dosimetrist and/or mold room tech at initiation and during treatment; consults with supportive care physicians nurses social worker and dietitian. Prepares room and equipment for patient. Reinforces recommendations given to patient by the physician dietitian etc. concerning reaction to treatment and care of the irradiated area prevention or treatment of generalized and local side effects. Observes patient and machine closely during procedure for any unusual reactions or events. Assists in tumor localization procedures preparation of casts molds etc. in dosimetry procedures in preparing radioactive materials in brachytherapy or high dose rate procedures and in follow-up and clinical examination if needed. Aids in the training of non-radiation therapy personnel. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature inservice meetings and workshops. Attends meetings as required by the facility and to maintain current registration/certification. Operates hospital network system to gain useful information needed to continue patient treatments (such as lab radiology and pathology reports). Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs current literature inservice meetings and workshops. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education
Graduate of an AMA approved program in Radiological Technology. Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy prefer B.S. Degree in Radiological Sciences.
Work Experience
Assists with the maintenance of records for JCAHO NRC and state regulatory agencies. No experience required. Prefer a minimum of 12 months previous experience as Radiation Therapist under the direct supervision of a Radiation Oncologist. Manual dexterity is necessary for reaching inserting heavy blocking trays ( up to 50 lbs.) marking on patients documenting in charts and operating the radiotherapy equipment. Ability to perceive pertinent details in chart and instructions relating to specific prescription. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of times. Employee demonstrates ability to recognize patients individual needs based on medical conditions age (young adults middle aged and geriatric) limitations and planned procedures.
License & Cert
Registered as a Radiation Therapist by the ARRT is required.
