About this role and why it matters
The Student Cultural Engagement Officer plays a key role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Success portfolio in supporting the delivery of student-focused ethnocultural programs and initiatives within the Culture theme and in collaboration with other stakeholder units. The role is responsible for developing and implementing student engagement opportunities and assisting with support advocacy and promotion of activities of student organisations and clubs. Programs and initiatives led by this role are culturally sensitive inclusive and foster a positive community experience at the University with a particular focus on connections to international student cohorts.
This role is funded until August 2026 with no extension planned at this stage.
Main overall responsibilities Summary
Support the Head of Culture in planning developing and coordinating community-building ethnocultural programs and activities for UNSW students
Assist with the execution of day-to-day operational aspects of cultural programs and initiatives on campus
Liaise with internal and external partners including Medibank to align partnership goals and explore opportunities for collaboration on shared interests
Recruit and oversee casual employees and volunteers to support in the delivery of initiatives and programs
Manage content and campaigns for UNSW Culture Instagram channel to highlight and celebrate cultural events and student stories
Work effectively with student organisations to identify and target opportunities for supporting student-focused initiatives
Coordinate project administration including the development of progress reports proposals required documentation and presentations tracking project milestones and deliverables
Who You Are
We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSWs vision and values who is highly organised and who comes equipped with:
Demonstrated experience in the development delivery and evaluation of successful engagement programs with culturally diverse and young people either professionally or in a volunteer capacity
Previous experience in higher education would be highly regarded
Previous experience organising and running events
Relevant program and/or project coordination experience with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines and multiple priorities
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders
A valid NSW Work with Children Check
Working hours are Monday to Friday business hours. The team works on a hybrid basis but the successful person will need to be onsite for events (there are no events on weekends).
Candidates will need to have working rights for the duration of the contract no sponsorship available.
