Job Description

Paraprofessional - In School Suspension

Blacksburg Middle School

2025 - 2026 School Year

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for a Paraprofessional - In School Suspension position that is available at Blacksburg Middle School.

Primary Responsibilities:

The ISS paraprofessional coordinates the program for students who violate school policies and must be removed from their classroom. The paraprofessional ensures that the classroom assignments sent by teachers are completed and also monitors the students additional academic tasks.

The ISS paraprofessional will assist the Principal and Assistant Principal with the following duties:

  • Work with staff to secure work for students in ISS
  • Monitor and maintain the ISS room in an appropriate manner
  • Provide a positive role model for students in ISS
  • Work with the discipline portion of the Student Information System software
  • Prepare discipline reports as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of at least 48 semester hours of college from an accredited college or university or a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment Exam
  • Possess strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn to operate and maintain a wide variety of instructional equipment
  • Possess the personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers and parents
  • Ability to maintain discipline in the classroom
  • Ability to be dependable and punctual

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SALARY: $24275.21 - $38853.34; commensurate with experience
