Description

Assists with the oversight of the daily laboratory operations.



Responsibilities
  • Assists with the oversight of the daily laboratory operations.
  • Maintains a daily schedule of personnel to ensure all sections of the laboratory are adequately staffed.
  • Oversees and participates in the technical operations including QA/QC checks system maintenance issues accuracy of test results and general sample troubleshooting.
  • Oversees laboratory staff in the performance of qualitative and quantitative test procedures.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for technologists in the correlation of test data and implement solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data.
  • Participates in QA/QC concerns which relate to results data delivery and patient care.
  • Tracks and responds to questions relating to testing procedures and results.
  • Performs clinical/technical/service/administrative tasks.
  • Performs technical procedures in hematology-coagulation as outlined in the policy and procedure manuals.
  • Performs periodic/scheduled and as needed maintenance on instrumentation/equipment.
  • Maintains documentation including remedial action for problems encountered.
  • Performs quality control and calibration procedures when indicated.
  • Ensures that all required Quality Control and/ or calibration procedures are completed by signing out the records appropriately- per shift/daily/monthly etc.
  • Maintains all records as per the regulatory requirements.
  • Consults with the Supervisor or the Pathologist if needed on all important results conflicting or out of range (recognized patterns specified in policy) results.
  • Notes inadequate volume and/ or abnormal appearance of sample.
  • Reviews all Critical Test results by repeat analysis if necessary and notifies the Nursing Staff/ Physician.
  • Prioritizes work activities to meet the established/expected test result turnaround time. Notifies a supervisor if testing cannot be performed or is delayed.
  • Assists in Inventory Control to assure adequate supplies (QC reagents calibrators and other consumables are available and reagents are stored properly). Supplies are dated appropriately when placed in use.
  • Participates in other projects/duties as assigned by the Supervisor/ Lab Management.
  • Takes initiative in resolving instrument related problems and finding alternate options for test processing.
  • Uses available time to departmental advantage and assists where needed.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned or perform other duties when necessary.
  • Participates in the departments performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Observes the Health Care Systems compliance policies.
  • Participates in Competency and Proficiency testing programs reports results back to Supervisor.
  • Observes all Safety procedures and precautions: a) Uses Personal Protective Equipment such as Lab Coats gloves mask shield etc. b) Disposes off contaminated waste and samples as specified by the hospital and laboratory manual.
  • Participates in the training of other staff members. Participates in continuing education.


Qualifications
  • Science in Medical Technology with 2 years of lab experience
  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $79720.00 - $119580.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors including experience education and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
